Chris – Gilbert High School Senior

So I really loved how Chris took charge of his photo shoot and pretty much hammed it up for the camera. I think I have more pictures of him making goofy, sly, crazy, awesome faces instead of normal ones. Besides that, apparently Chris is kind of a big deal, which I found out as he was giving me his very best mid-air heel click. 🙂  His mom, an awesome math teacher at my school, was the winner of one of the three senior photo shoots from Jenna Bishop Photography. Good luck this year at Gilbert High, Chris, and with all your soccer games/tournaments/coaching/and awesomeness!

Photo Club!

This week was the kick-off of photo club at my school. I decided to start photography club because:

1. It wasn’t offered

2. Photography is fabulous

3. I love teaching things that I love

4. I love when students get excited about learning something they like!

I was expecting maybe 20 kids to show up, so I was pretty surprised when the whole library was full with almost 60 students. They all had ranges of cameras from their iphones (yeah, I’m jealous), to point-and-shoots, to DSLR’s. We went through a sweet article from istockphoto about composition. The first week we’re going over the rule of thirds and close ups, one step at a time. I’d rather them REALLY understand everything that just get a bunch of info and not be able to do anything with it. The very best part was when we were done with the information, everyone went out and started taking pictures all around the courtyard. It was so neat seeing the students apply what they learned, and I loved when they would show me what they took and how they interpreted things they saw. Plus, I have an awesome Highland High School sophomore, Rachel, as my assistant, who is fabulous. She does photography as well and is going to be a GREAT asset to teach lessons and help the students. I’ll try to put up pictures of our next meeting – yay!

Here are a couple pictures from my students practicing the “rule of thirds” – I love these!

Ian – Desert Ridge High Senior

My favorite part of Ian’s photoshoot was when in the middle of taking some pictures his phone rang. He looked down at it, shrugged, and put it away.  He said he didn’t need to answer it because it was “just a guy,” meaning that if it was a girl, well, things would apparently have been different 🙂 So of course I teased him about it the rest of the shoot. Ian is the son of the fabulous, fabulous Dora who was the Principal’s assistant at my school for many, many years. She just recently decided to take on some new challenges in a different position at another school, but she will be missed dearly. So it was neat to be able to see her again before she left. Besides that, her son is the most kind, respectful, sweet guy ever. I had a great time doing his photo shoot in downtown Gilbert. Good luck this year, Ian, and with your adventures in international business yet to come!

This was Ian’s reaction when I told him our photo shoot was over. Thanks, Ian! You are awesome!

Travis – Highland High School Senior!

Every day, Travis, a Highland High School senior, lover of diving and coffee and snowboards, is shufflin. I believe this is evident by the “every day I’m shufflin” t-shirt and the sweet in-action shufflin photo I snagged during his senior shoot. In fact, Travis (well, Travis’s mom, Kathe), was one of the three winners of a free senior photo shoot for liking Jenna Bishop Photography on Facebook. Travis is one-of-a-kind, and we had a great time grabbing some urban senior pictures against some sweet Phoenix graffiti. And I’m going to be totally honest, at risk of possible career-ending judgement, I went home and learned how to shuffle by watching a how-to video on youtube. There, dare I say it. Every day I’m shufflin.

Good luck, Travis, on your senior year and beyond! Thanks for opening my eyes to the awesomeness of shufflin!
